The Navigator

"One night I spied upon the deck a man, bearded and robed, and he seemed to beckon me to embark for far unknown shores."

Legend of Lenape Crow in Manhattan

Prior to the Dutch colonization of Manhattan, there lived a native people, the Lenape, who had inhabited the island and surrounding regions. According to Lenape mythology there was the legend of a crow that brought the gift of fire to the land, but in doing so, its plumage was scorched forever black and its voice made rough, it forever lives on in the spirit world and in Lenape legend.
I envisioned this crow creature of legend, summoned from the spirit world to modern day Manhattan. It seeks revenge for the injustice and brutality that the westerners had committed on the tribes and the land in the centuries past.
